LOTO Safety designed and launched the 3PTP (3 Point Traceability Padlock) in 2013 based on feedback from customers who need to deploy huge quantities of LOTO padlocks during commissioning of equipment and machinery.
LOTO programs use 3 different key systems:
- Keyed Different locks (each padlock has unique keys)
- Keyed Alike (group of padlocks having a common key)
- Keyed Different with Master Keys (a group of locks in the same or different colors having unique keys and all locks opening with a Master Key).
- Key system molded on padlock body and key: Molding the Key System into the padlock body was an important feature introduced by us which allowed immediate action to be initiated for lost or misplaced keys. This feature reduced considerable downtime in deciding whether locks need to be cut (for Keyed Different systems) or if it could be opened by the supervisor if the lock in use was Master Keyed.
- Key numbers engraved on padlock body and key: Engraving key numbers on the padlock body and key wasn’t a common practice in the past. Customers had to individually write the key numbers on small plastic tags which was a cumbersome task. Tracing keys to padlocks in large LOTO programs deploying hundreds of locks was a nightmare especially when key tags were lost or misplaced. The 3PTP padlock addressed this problem resulting in huge savings in manhours spent and downtime while identifying keys to padlocks.
- Color coded key jackets: Color coding key jackets enabled quick identification of keys for different color padlocks and fast retrieval from key cabinets. The earlier system consisted of keys which had to be tagged with the lock details. Each tag had to be scrutinized to identify the relevant key for each lock resulting in considerable time waste to retrieve keys.
- Weather resistant: An additional feature inbuilt into each padlock, a key cover and 2 neoprene bushes mounted on the shackle prevented dirt, moisture and grit ingress into the padlock body. Jammed cylinders in long term outdoor isolation programs necessitated destruction of the locks. The weather resistant features increased padlock life and saved on frequent replacement costs.
Product development is a continuous process, we are currently working on several new designs which will add value to energy isolation programs. Check our website regularly for updates on new launches.
